Welcome to the queen of rides. Welcome to the Queen Victoria Ride. The ultimate cycling challenge.
The Queen Victoria Ride is the home of the Alpine Classic Extreme 250 (ACE 250) and the Three Peaks Challenge. These are both participation events that will use the Queen Victoria Ride as their course.
Why "Queen Victoria?"
The name Queen Victoria Ride comes from the term 'Queen of stages'. A cycling term that refers to the toughest stage of a cycling race. It is where the contenders and the pretenders are sorted out and 'Victoria' is a geographical reference to where the ride is located.
Tour of beauty (Andrew Bain, The Australian 19 June 2010)
“At 230km, a length similar to a Tour de France stage, it will be cycled in a single day only by the strongest and most impatient of riders. For most, it's best spread across a few days; even then it's a tough journey, climbing about 4000m, but for every pain there's ample pleasure. And not just in the High Country scenery. Like the ride's name, the rewards can be almost regal, with luxury accommodation, fine food and country pubs spread along its course. Open roads lead to open fires, and days can end in the comforting hands of a masseuse.”
